FROM FOLKESTONE TO LONDON ABOARD THE LAST PADDLE STEAMER
This is the first trip from Folkestone to London aboard the world's last sea-going paddle steamer. The Waverley sailed past the white cliffs of Dover, passing Deal and Ramsgate, and then headed up to London.
Paul Semple, General Manager of Waverley Excursions, said: 'Today was a great day as it hasn't sailed this far from Kent to London in 20 years.' It is currently located in the South East of England, carrying passengers for day trips.
The Waverley was launched on the River Clyde in Scotland in 1946. The new oil-fired paddle steamer replaced a previous PS Waverley that was lost during the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940. It first called at the Thames in 1978.
