PLANS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW CAR PARK AT THE PORT OF DOVER
New proposal for a truck park near the Port of Dover, located at the Court Wood Interchange on the A20, the final junction approaching Dover.
The proposal will be open for public consultation in December. The developer, GSE Group, which also operates the Ashford International Truckstop, stated that the park 'could kickstart the town’s economy,' offer welfare facilities for HGV drivers, and reduce disruption.
[A name is missing here, possibly 'Healey' refers to someone previously mentioned but not included in this text. Assuming the name is 'Healey' as provided:] Healey added: 'By providing secure parking and improved welfare facilities for drivers, we would address HGV-related crime in Kent and antisocial overnight illegal parking.'
Doug Bannister, CEO of the Port of Dover, said: 'We welcome GSE’s plans to significantly increase the number of secure HGV parking spaces so close to the port.'
'Our freight customers have told us that the proximity of the parking to the port is key to their operations and the welfare of their drivers.'
Furthermore, the new project will bring new jobs, as the entire site is expected to include a restaurant, a gym, and a shop.
