ABUSE VICTIM SEEKS DAMAGES IN CIVIL LAWSUIT.

Abuse victim seeks damages in civil lawsuit.

Duncan Bayles committed offences in the 1980s and 90s against four boys in two care homes. He was found guilty of 12 counts of sexual assault against children under the age of 14, and one of the victims has launched a civil claim against him. Bayles, 65, was arrested on August 18th, 2020, and was subsequently charged with 19 offences in relation to the reports, including gross indecency, indecent assault, and attempted rape. The victim, represented by the law firm Bolt Burdon Kemp, is asking "that anyone with information about Bayles working at the Deal children's home come forward and speak out, so that we can gather sufficient evidence to support our client's case." Bayles, who consistently maintained his innocence, was nonetheless found guilty of the crimes. Detective Pete Edwards stated: "This was a complex case, and all of Bayles' victims should be commended for their courage in coming forward to bring this predatory criminal to justice. It is never too late to report a crime, and Kent Police remains committed to supporting abuse survivors, listening to them, and pursuing offenders, no matter how much time has passed." "We recognise the impact these horrific crimes have had on Bayles' victims, and we hope they will find some peace knowing that this dangerous criminal is now behind bars. The restrictions he must adhere to upon completion of his lengthy custodial sentence, which will remain in place for the rest of his life, will further protect against reoffending and safeguard potential future victims."
